Brighton interested in signing out-of-contract Man United star on a free: report

Manchester United’s season is over. Planning for the 2019/20 campaign will already be underway with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looking for something to build upon.

The Red Devils do have several players who’s contracts are winding down, with the club yet to determine who should stay and who should go. Amongst those is Juan Mata, and in the bizarre transfer rumour of the day, it is being claimed by the Daily Mirror that Brighton & Hove Albion are interested in signing the playmaker on a free transfer.

Apparently, interest in Mata from his homeland of Spain is plentiful, and an exit could well be on the cards as he wants a two-year deal to remain at the club, while United have only offered a twelve-month extension to this point.

After securing their top-flight status this weekend, Brighton are clearly looking to build on what they have and try to move forward. Mata would be a stunning signing for the Seagulls if they could somehow pull it off, but honestly, I just don’t see how they’d tempt him to the coast under any circumstance.

With respect to Brighton, Mata’s a level above them and he surely must see his future playing up a step than Hughton’s team, be it at the Theatre of Dreams or elsewhere.
