How Manchester United could look in a 4-3-1-2 formation against Everton at Goodison Park on Easter Sunday; Rashford, Lukaku and Sanchez on the attack!

Manchester United will be back in Premier League action against Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon in what will be the start of a busy eight-day period for United. The Easter break will be good for the supporters but the players will not be able to take their minds off the task in hand; to finish the season inside the top four.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave his squad a 15 point challenge ahead of the league clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers, which they lost 2-1. Since then, United has beaten West Ham United and will face Everton (A), Manchester City (H), Chelsea (H), Huddersfield Town (A) and Cardiff City (H) before the end of the season.

Solskjaer will still have fullback problems with Luke Shaw suspended for this fixture, although he will be available from the City match on Wednesday. Ashley Young is a player out of form and has endured a tough week after that shocking performance against Barcelona and the racial abuse he has also endured on social media.

United and Everton have played 200 competitive matches in the history of both clubs, dating back to the first match which was played on the 24 September 1892, a 6-0 defeat for Newton Heath. United has won 88 matches, drawn 43 times and lost 69 times. United is currently on an eight-match unbeaten run against Everton, winning six, drawing twice.

Goalkeeper: David De Gea

The Spaniard is not in the greatest form of his career but will need to find it in order to keep his club on route to achieving their objective this season which is to finish inside the top four of the Premier League. That was all we could have hoped for under Jose Mourinho. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may need to motivate De Gea as he’s not been at his best for a while now.

Defence: Diogo Dalot, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo

The fullback options are a bit thin on the ground currently with Ashley Young needing a break after poor performances and Luke Shaw still suspended. Diogo Dalot should be given the opportunity to play in his favoured role with Marcos Rojo on the left. Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof should be entrusted in the centre of defence.

Midfield: Fred, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba

The midfield has been positive at times recently with Fred emerging as a capable player with growing confidence. With Ander Herrera still on the sidelines through injury, the Brazilian should start alongside Nemanja Matic, who was on the bench on Wednesday and Paul Pogba, who owes a good performance for the supporters, the manager and his teammates.

Attacking Midfield: Alexis Sanchez

The Chilean had one of the better chances to score against Barcelona on Wednesday and should be utilised from the start against Everton. Anthony Martial has been in poor form recently so should be dropped to the bench. Sanchez will need to put in some good performances for the remainder of the season as so far, he’s been nothing but a flop at United.

Forwards: Marcus Rashford, Romelu Lukaku

Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford should lead the line for United against Everton. Both players have scored 13 and 15 goals respectively this season and will need to find the form to continue hitting them into the back of the net. After Wednesday’s defeat against Barcelona, both players should be ready to achieve, especially Lukaku against his former club.

Substitutes: Sergio Romero; Phil Jones, Matteo Darmian; Juan Mata, Andreas Pereira, Scott McTominay; Anthony Martial

Solskjaer will need to have some capable players on the bench against Everton. I have picked the best of the bunch to start the match with these seven in reserve, if utilised correctly, could inspire United to find the result they need on the road. Andreas Pereira is a player who has been performing at a good level since Solskjaer arrived at the club.
