Man United quoted huge fee if they want to sig Harry Maguire: report

Manchester United’s search for a centre-back last summer was well documented. It seems as though that’s an area the club is still looking to invest in, come this season’s end.

The name now being mentioned by the media is Harry Maguire. The Englishman, 26, had a stunning World Cup with England and his stock has been on the rise since.

In an exclusive from the Daily Star on Sunday, it is being claimed that United would have to offer a world-record fee to sign the 26-year-old; at least £80million. The article states that eventually, the Red Devils could have to stump up £90million if they wanted to bring the Three Lions hero to Old Trafford.

There’s no doubt that Maguire would be a big upgrade on what United already have in that area of the field. However, is he really good enough to command a higher fee than, say, Virgil van Dijk?

In my eyes, there’s no way he’s worth that much. I’d want the complete player for that amount of money and there are still clear holes in Maguire’s game.

Personally, I’d like to see the club look elsewhere, but United simply cannot afford to go into next season without a top-level centre-back having been purchased.
