Player Ratings: Man United awful against Huddersfield, top-four hopes over

David de Gea – He denies Mbenza from scoring when confident and playing well, but the goal wasn’t his fault. 5/10

Ashley Young – Played at right-back and centre-half. How long will we persist with a bang-average winger playing out of position as his career is winding down? 4/10

Phil Jones – Just not good enough. Makes too many simple mistakes. 4/10

Victor Lindelof – He won his tackles and aerial duels but I’d like to see him take control of the back four. Subbed off with an injury. 5/10

Luke Shaw – Made a horrendous mistake to allow Mbenza in to score. It’s a shame as he’s been up there amongst our best players recently. 4/10

Nemanja Matic – Just so lethargic and slow. Rightfully hooked in the early goings of the second half. 4/10

Scott McTominay – Scored the opener and started well. Faded rapidly like the rest of his teammates, though. 5/10

Paul Pogba – For all his problems, it felt like Pogba was one of the few who actually seemed to care about getting a positive result today. He was unlucky to hit the bar twice. 5/10

Juan Mata – Played some nice passes and looked sharp on the ball. We need more, though. 5/10

Marcus Rashford – Just hasn’t looked the same player since Liverpool at home. He must be carrying an injury. 4/10

Alexis Sanchez – Today summed up his Manchester United story. Did nothing for almost an hour then went off injured. 3/10

Subs:

Tahith Chong – Looked a little out of his depth for the most part. Did force a smart save from Lossl late on, though.

Ander Herrera – Looked lively. Our only player who wants to grab the game by the scruff of its neck and help United win. Apparently, the club don’t want to renew his contract.

Diogo Dalot – Not enough time to mark.
